Grenache and Syrah vineyard rows on the Aliso Ranch hillside

Vineyard

Grapes and olives, again.

Grenache and Syrah on the hillside. Rosé and red in the cellar. Not for sale — shared with friends and guests.

A working lot

The vineyard is Grenache and Syrah. From that fruit we make both rosé and red — a small lot that belongs to this knoll, not to a brand. Olive trees that predate the ruin still stand beside the rows — remnants of a grove Minter and the Connors had a hand in planting. Parker Dear counted fifteen acres of vineyard in 1895 and opened a winery in the old adobe; fire took the ramada in 1899, and in 1904 a neighbor protested the business as a disturbance to schoolchildren. The hillside still ripens fruit.

We do not sell our wine. There is no tasting room, no bottle shop, no rate card. We are glad to share a glass with friends and with guests of the ranch — a dinner, a wedding, a night in the suite. The bottles in the house now are a 2023 Syrah, a 2024 Grenache, and a 2025 Grenache Rosé. Each has won a Silver Medal at the Orange County Fair Amateur Wine Competition. We are still working toward a gold. The label includes an image of the White Lady, the figure in the local legend, standing in the vineyard on the picture. Chapter X tells that story.
